I guess this is kind of like the McD's of Mex for the Charleston area. Yeah, it's nothing great, but it's also nothing great. Service is usually good and servers are usually nice as well. I don't come here very often, because there are so many other places around here that are better. Before I found those though, I would come here.

Take an alpo sandwich with you, it will be better then the food, but the alcohol is good. Service is good, but the dialogue between you and them is weak at best!

This place is almost like other places. The chips and salsa are great. They also have a mild version good for the kids. My children enjoy it here because they also get to enjoy the chips and salsa. Staff is wonderful. Margarita happy hour is wonderful. Worth a visit. Clean bathrooms. Clean eating area. Great for groups.

Pleasant, clean and casual little place, friendly staff...noticed on the back of my Dollar General receipt there were coupons for $5 off for this place except for Sat & Sun...decided to check it out. Had the grilled chicken bowl mixed with rice & black beans, cheese, pico de gallo . This was something new...great taste..not too spicy. They had some delicious looking sliced cakes in a display case upfront. Manuel was a pleasant, great server! Prices very reasonable for ample food quantity. It was better than a La Hacienda I went to years ago. I can't keep up with all the Mexican menus ..seems they all are different beyond the basic taco, enchilada, rice, beans. For years I never ventured from the basic Speedy Gonzales (one taco, one enchilada, rice-n-beans) cos I wasn't sure about other things...now I'm willing to venture into the menu more and have not been disappointed!

As much as I hate to admit it, I just love this place. It's cheap, cheesy, Americanized, Mexicanesque. The margaritas are strong, the portions are huge, and the prices are reasonable. I've ordered about a dozen things on their menu and the "Special Compa" is definately my favorite item. It's 8oz of sirloin, shrimp, sauteed veggies, and roasted japanenos. It is TO DIE for! The service, at least when I am in, is fast, friendly, and efficient. Don't come here expecting downtown dining, come expecting good bang for your buck. I always do.

The margaritas are great! I love the grilled chicken nachos. They always come out perfect. The portions are large. The table side guacamole is normally very good, and we love watching it be made at our table. We asked for jalapeños in our guacamole but this time got bell peppers instead:( Service is hit or miss depending on what time you go. Go early.

The carnitas were dry and the server was confrontational. Salsas taste canned and had no spice.

Apparently it is so hard to find great Mexican food in the Charleston area. This place isn't too bad. It is moderately priced, they do offer military discount, and the food tastes ok. We only go here if we are too tired to make our own Mexican food at home. I believe they may be owned by the same people as Poblanos on Rivers Ave., they have the exact same menu.

The waiter was a complete dick, he ignored me the whole entire time. We ordered and waited an 30 min, and we eventually asked about our food and he forgot to put in the order. We also saw a big ass roach crawling on the wall next to our booth. Never again.

I like this place, better than Sapphire's across the way. Had a good lunch and cold draft beer for a fair price. Friendly staff and clean.

Average Mexican food. Nothing stands out. Made to appeal to ordinary run of the mill southern Mexican joints. Not like west coast or mid west joints.

I really like this place. Eat there about twice a month. I have eaten there 100's of times and I've never had a bad meal there. Service is always great! You know, my only complaint is I kind of miss the live music they used to have. This is a very relaxed and casual place. Try it, it's good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
